Attorney Chris Dyal Becomes City Court Judge

We are very excited to announce that one of Dyal Jenkins’s very own has recently been appointed as a city court judge in Georgia. Back in November 2022, our Attorney Christopher Dyal was appointed to the position by the Lavonia City Council. A motion was made by Councilman Guarnella to appoint Chris Dyal as temporary Municipal Judge. Motion was seconded by Councilman Hicks carried unanimously 6-0.

So, what does it take to become a judge in the state of Georgia?

To become a city court judge in Georgia, there are certain requirements that must be met. Here are the general requirements:

  1. Education: Candidates for city court judge must be a member of the State Bar of Georgia and have a law degree (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  2. Experience: Candidates must have been admitted to practice law in Georgia for at least seven years prior to their appointment or election as a judge. Chris Dyal has practiced law as a personal injury lawyer, criminal defense attorney, and prosecutor throughout his career.
  3. Residency: Candidates must be a resident of the city in which they are seeking to serve as a judge.
  4. Appointment or election: City court judges in Georgia are appointed by the city council or elected by the voters in non-partisan elections. The specific process may vary depending on the city.
  5. Additional requirements: In some cases, city court judges may also be required to pass a background check and meet certain ethical standards.

Becoming a city court judge in Georgia requires significant legal experience, a strong understanding of the law, and a commitment to upholding justice and fairness in the community. Chris Dyal has now practiced as both an Attorney and Judge, having a comprehensive understanding of the law across most legal areas.
